About the position

The Interdisciplinary Cartographer/Geographer position at the US Geological Survey involves developing and monitoring geospatial data projects, collaborating with various stakeholders, and providing technical support related to geospatial data and technology. This role is crucial for advancing the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and requires a strong educational background in cartography or geography, along with relevant experience in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor projects designed to provide geospatial data and/or services under appropriate USGS contracts.
  • Set project cost estimates and schedules to meet customer and partner requirements.
  • Work with a variety of internal and external customers and partners to establish partnerships and/or modify product and service specifications.
  • Work to expand the number of cooperating agencies and organizations in support of geospatial information needs.
  • Provide technical support to management on policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines related to geospatial data and technology development and for the advancement of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
  • Participate in the evaluation of technical proposals using potential contractor's prior performance, technical capability, capacity, and equipment.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.
  • Basic education requirement in Cartography or Geography, including specific coursework and degree requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with geospatial data collection methods such as Lidar and aerial photography.
  • Familiarity with federal contracting processes and task order management.
