About the position

The Interdisciplinary Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineer position at Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is a critical role within the Federal Hydro Projects Operations organization. This position is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Operations and Maintenance and Capital Direct Funding Agreements. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of engineering studies related to the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS) hydropower system, managing multiple projects that require extensive planning and coordination. The role demands a high level of independence, as the engineer will be tasked with completing assignments that may involve complex engineering phenomena and require innovative solutions. The engineer will oversee the entire research process, from initiating investigations and planning methodologies to interpreting findings and preparing comprehensive reports. This includes analyzing data sets, providing technical support, and making recommendations to advance programs or mitigate challenges. The position is integral to ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of hydropower facilities, contributing to BPA's mission of delivering reliable and affordable power to the region. Candidates must be prepared to work on-site in Portland, OR, as the position does not support remote work. Responsibilities

  • Independently complete assignments involving diverse studies related to the FCRPS hydropower system.
  • Coordinate and complete assigned studies, ensuring thorough planning and execution.
  • Conduct analyses that may explore unknown areas of engineering understanding.
  • Initiate investigations and plan methods for research processes.
  • Interpret findings and prepare final reports based on research outcomes.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations for program advancement or challenge mitigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, demonstrating technical support and project analysis capabilities.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills to manage engineering projects effectively.
