About the position

As an Interdisciplinary Community Planner/Civil Engineer/Architect with the Department of Defense, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining project criteria, schedules, and budgets that align with project and customer requirements. Your responsibilities will include composing technical reports for management that provide updates on the status of master plans, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and that projects are progressing as planned. You will also consult with clients regarding facility planning product line deliverables, helping to meet command missions, goals, and objectives effectively. In this position, you will evaluate architecture and engineering construction projects, recommending and implementing initiatives for improvements. This will require a strong understanding of planning criteria, master planning, facility planning, economic analyses, explosive safety siting, and space management. You will be expected to execute Project Planning Documents, such as Military Construction (MILCON) and Special Project planning documentation, and provide technical references, guidance, training, and mentorship to colleagues and Public Works Department (PWD) staff. Your expertise will be essential in completing Asset Evaluations, Basic Facility Requirements, and Facility Planning Documents using various computer application software. This role is interdisciplinary, meaning it may be filled by candidates from various backgrounds, including community planning, landscape architecture, architecture, and civil engineering. You will be required to work both in an office setting and on-site, conducting field visits and facility inspections, which may involve moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions. The position is full-time, typically requiring a 40-hour work week, and may involve travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote or isolated sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project criteria, schedules, and budgets in conformance with project and customer requirements.
  • Compose technical reports for management providing updates on the status of master plans.
  • Consult with clients regarding facility planning product line deliverables to help meet command mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Evaluate architecture and engineering construction projects to recommend and implement initiatives for improvements.
  • Execute Project Planning Documents, such as Military Construction (MILCON) and Special Project planning documentation.
  • Provide technical references, guidance, training, and mentorship to colleagues and Public Works Department (PWD) staff.
  • Complete Asset Evaluations, Basic Facility Requirements, Facility Planning Documents, MILCON and Special Project submissions using computer application software.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • Must be certified as a Career Field Facilities Engineering Level III within 24 months of appointment.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must have a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community planning, urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration.
  • Knowledge of explosive safety siting and economic analyses.
  • Familiarity with computer application software such as AutoCAD, Excel, and other relevant tools.
