About the position

The Interdisciplinary Geographer/Cartographer position at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months, with the possibility of extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. This role is critical within the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center, where the selected candidate will be responsible for developing and monitoring projects that provide geospatial data and services under appropriate USGS contracts. The position requires setting project cost estimates and schedules to meet customer and partner requirements, as well as providing estimated resource requirements and allocations to supervisors by collaborating with team members and project leaders. The role also involves monitoring inspections of materials to ensure compliance with requirements and product specifications. In addition to project management, the Interdisciplinary Geographer/Cartographer will work closely with a variety of internal and external customers and partners to establish and modify product and service specifications. Establishing partnerships with federal, regional, tribal, and state-level agencies, scientific committees, and other organizations is essential to support USGS/NGP objectives. The selected candidate will also be tasked with expanding the number of cooperating agencies and organizations to address geospatial information needs effectively. Technical support to management on policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines related to geospatial data and technology development is another key responsibility. The role includes participating in the evaluation of technical proposals, assessing potential contractors' prior performance, technical capability, capacity, and equipment.
