About the position

The Department of Defense is seeking qualified candidates for interdisciplinary positions as Operations Research Analysts, Mathematicians, Statisticians, Computer Scientists, and Data Scientists. These positions are developmental and may be filled at the GS-07, GS-09, or target grade GS-11 levels. The selected candidates will be part of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, contributing to various projects and programs that require analytical and quantitative skills. The roles involve supporting project management, control, coordination, and execution of district-assigned projects. Candidates will work as part of a team within the district project controls group, providing essential services such as planning, scheduling, estimating, budgeting, change management, and risk assessment. Daily management and processing of projects will be conducted using professional project portfolio management software and established Project Management Business Processes (PMBP). The positions also require managing, controlling, developing, coordinating, and executing assigned programs and their documentation requirements to ensure effective data and document management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in support of project management, control, coordination, and execution of all district assigned projects and programs.
  • Provide services to the district's portfolio of projects such as planning, scheduling, estimating, budgeting, change management, and risk assessment.
  • Manage day-to-day processing of each project and/or program using professional project portfolio management software.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute assigned programs and their documentation requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research, mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related field.
  • At least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, and related subjects, including calculus for Operations Research positions.
  • Experience with scheduling software and accounting to support project management for GS-07 level.
  • Knowledge of project delivery processes and ability to troubleshoot scheduling errors for GS-09 level.
  • Ability to create project reports and monitor budgeting processes for GS-11 level.
