About the position

The Interim Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at Delta College is responsible for fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion while promoting student success both academically and athletically. This part-time position involves leading student-athletes in their personal and athletic development, overseeing various program aspects such as recruiting, scheduling, and coaching, and serving as a role model within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.
  • Determine game-day coaching strategy.
  • Mentor athletes to promote adherence to the Delta College Student-Athlete Code of Conduct and other institutional rules.
  • Monitor student-athlete grades and conduct, ensuring academic progress and eligibility.
  • Enforce study hall attendance for incoming freshmen and students with grade deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach for the ASPIRE to Succeed program focusing on academic success.
  • Develop and publish team rules regarding behavior and attendance, with Athletic Director approval.
  • Work with the Head Coach to determine discipline procedures and enforce them as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with Delta College's philosophy, mission, and guiding principles.
  • Uphold all athletic rules, regulations, and policies set forth by Delta College, NJCAA, and MCCAA.
  • Attend all required conference, staff, institutional, and departmental meetings.
  • Establish a fundamental philosophy and skill development for the team.
  • Maintain discipline and work to increase morale among staff and athletes.
  • Recruit academically prepared student-athletes and follow recruitment guidelines.
  • Organize off-season activities and fundraising initiatives to support the program.
  • Assist the athletic director in scheduling competitions and managing practice needs.
  • Organize documentation for student-athlete eligibility and equipment needs.
  • Promote a favorable image of Delta College in the community and at events.

Requirements

  • Associates degree
  • Knowledge of first aid and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of MCCAA, region XII, and NJCAA regulations for the sport coached
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures in the Athletic Department handbook
  • Valid college-acceptable driving record
  • Compliance with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  • Compliance with Title IX
  • Availability for weekly practice times from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Relevant coaching experience
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in any field of study
  • Minimum of three years coaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of MCCAA and NJCAA rules and regulations.

Benefits

  • Part-time position with an annual stipend of $6,600, prorated based on hire date.
