About the position

The Athletic Director is a key administrative position within the Kern Community College District, specifically at Porterville College, responsible for overseeing the intercollegiate athletic program. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Instruction or an assigned supervisor and plays a crucial part in ensuring compliance with Title IX and other relevant laws, policies, and guidelines established by the college and various athletic associations. The Athletic Director will be tasked with planning, directing, and coordinating all operations related to the athletic program, ensuring that it aligns with the college's mission and objectives. In this capacity, the Athletic Director will organize and administer all intercollegiate competition programs for both men's and women's sports. This includes conducting regular meetings and training sessions to promote adherence to athletic rules and regulations. The position also involves preparing and managing the annual budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring the efficient use of resources within the athletic department. The Athletic Director will coordinate the scheduling of athletic events and manage transportation logistics as necessary. Additionally, the Athletic Director will participate in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of coaches and support staff, representing the college and its athletic program to the community and various athletic associations. The role may require assignments at off-campus sites and may involve working during evenings or weekends. The Athletic Director will also be responsible for preparing local and state reports and coordinating program reviews as required.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and administers all programs of intercollegiate competition in men's and women's sports.
  • Conducts regular meetings and training to promote strict adherence to conference and state athletic rules, regulations, and codes.
  • Prepares and manages the annual budget and monitors all athletic-related expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Organizes the athletic department to achieve maximum efficiency in the utilization of staff, funds, and facilities and ensures appropriate and equitable distribution of funds and use of facilities between men's and women's sports.
  • Implements federal, state, and local policy and procedures governing intercollegiate athletics.
  • Coordinates all activities related to the scheduling of all athletic events, facilities, and transportation as necessary.
  • Participates in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of the coaches, support staff, and athletic trainers.
  • Represents the College and the athletic program to the community, the Central Valley Conference, and the California Community College Athletic Association.
  • Prepares local and state reports and coordinates 3C2A program review.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessary in the management of collegiate athletics.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in any field of study, preferably in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Recreation, or Athletic Administration.
  • Two years of experience in an administrative leadership position with experience in or closely related to the administration of an athletic department.
