About the position

Alvarez & Marsal, a leading independent global professional services firm, is seeking an Interim CFO to join its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) - CFO Services team. This role is crucial for supporting our Private Equity clientele across the United States. The firm specializes in turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services, and has a strong operational heritage that emphasizes problem-solving and value creation. The Interim CFO will be responsible for leading clients through challenging times, particularly in the Manufacturing, Industrial, and Consumer Packaged Goods sectors. The ideal candidate will possess a CPA and/or MBA, along with a proven track record as a CFO for private equity-owned businesses with revenues ranging from $100 million to $1 billion. This position requires deep experience in the relevant industries and prior consulting experience is highly preferred. The Interim CFO will engage in various PEPI services, including CFO Services, Rapid Results, CDD/Strategy, M&A Services, and Supply Chain management. In this role, the Interim CFO will lead time-sensitive projects such as restructuring, carve-outs, or acquisitions, and will be responsible for improving the performance of finance organizations by upgrading staff skills, redesigning processes, or implementing new systems like NetSuite and MS Dynamics. The candidate will also be expected to build budgets, EBITDA forecasts, and cash forecasts to support executive management decision-making, with experience in management reporting dashboards being a plus. Additionally, international treasury and currency hedging experience is advantageous. The position demands strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills, as well as proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. The candidate should demonstrate structured project management capabilities, initiative, critical thinking, and the ability to deliver projects on time and with high quality. Building client relationships and identifying key operational performance drivers are essential aspects of this role. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with over ten years of relevant financial management experience. An MBA or other advanced degree or certification is preferred, and the role requires flexibility to travel up to 80% of the time. Existing relationships within the private equity sector, whether personal or professional, are considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support Private Equity clientele on a national basis as an Interim CFO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Ten or more years of previous related financial management roles.
  • Established track record as a CFO for PE-owned businesses with revenues in the $100 million to $1 billion range.
  • Deep experience in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Consumer Packaged Goods businesses.
  • Prior experience working with private equity backed companies.
  • Prior consulting experience in performance improvement operations or restructuring.
  • Strong written, oral, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Structured project management skills.
