About the position

Alvarez & Marsal, a leading independent global professional services firm, is seeking an Interim CFO to join its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) - CFO Services team. This role is crucial for supporting our Private Equity clientele across the United States. The firm specializes in turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services, and has a strong operational heritage that emphasizes problem-solving and value creation. The Interim CFO will be responsible for leading clients through challenging times, particularly in the Manufacturing, Industrial, and Consumer Packaged Goods sectors. The ideal candidate will possess a CPA and/or MBA, along with a proven track record as a CFO for private equity-owned businesses with revenues ranging from $100 million to $1 billion. This position requires deep experience in the relevant industries and prior consulting experience, particularly in leading organizations through time-sensitive projects such as restructurings, carve-outs, or acquisitions. The Interim CFO will also focus on improving the performance of finance organizations by upgrading staff skills, redesigning processes, and implementing new systems like NetSuite and MS Dynamics. In addition to technical skills, the role demands strong analytical abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. The candidate should be capable of managing structured projects effectively, demonstrating initiative and critical thinking, and building strong client relationships. The position also requires flexibility to travel up to 80% of the time, making it essential for the candidate to have existing relationships within the private equity sector, whether personal or professional.

Responsibilities

  • Support Private Equity clientele on a national basis as an Interim CFO.
  • Lead clients through challenging financial situations, including restructurings and acquisitions.
  • Improve the performance of finance organizations by upgrading staff skills and redesigning processes.
  • Implement new financial systems such as NetSuite and MS Dynamics.
  • Build budgets, EBITDA forecasts, and cash forecasts to support executive decision-making.
  • Develop management reporting dashboards to enhance financial visibility.
  • Manage international treasury and currency hedging processes as needed.
  • Identify key operational performance drivers and support clients with cash flow forecasting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Ten or more years of experience in financial management roles, performance improvement operations consulting, accounting diligence, or restructuring.
  • Established track record as a CFO for PE-owned businesses with revenues in the $100 million to $1 billion range.
  • Deep experience in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Consumer Packaged Goods industries.
  • Prior experience working with private equity backed companies is required.
  • Prior consulting experience is essential.
  • Strong written, oral, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or other advanced degree or certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) preferred.
  • Experience with management reporting dashboards is a plus.
  • International treasury and currency hedging experience is a plus.
