About the position

The Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a crucial role in the financial management of a non-profit organization in Chicago, IL. This full-time, temporary position involves overseeing all financial operations, including budgeting, cash management, and compliance with GAAP standards. The CFO will work closely with the CEO and leadership team to ensure the organization meets its financial goals while supporting its mission-driven initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the board of directors and leadership team to prepare the annual budget.
  • Ensure timely tracking and reconciliation of accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Oversee financial software and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
  • Supervise the finance team, delegating duties and managing performance.
  • Lead financial forecasting and cash flow management.
  • Assess organizational performance against financial plans and provide expertise for remediation efforts.
  • Prepare budgets for proposals in collaboration with the Development team.
  • Provide financial guidance for cross-departmental teams and projects.
  • Ensure strong financial management systems in collaboration with the Operations team.
  • Maintain a strong financial controls environment and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze financial data and present reports to senior leadership.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improved financial operations and reporting.
  • Provide oversight and ensure relevant financial data is presented to the Boards of Directors and senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Understanding of financial GAAP for nonprofits.
  • Bachelor's Degree Required.
  • Federal grant experience.
  • Extensive leadership experience.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of successful finance standards.
  • Strong yet encouraging management style.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Operate with high moral standards.
