About the position

The Interim College Academic Counselor at Aspire Public Schools is responsible for overseeing the delivery of academic counseling services in assigned secondary schools. This role involves implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic needs of all students, advocating for their success, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support post-secondary achievement. The counselor will also train College Advisors, develop individual student plans, and provide system-wide support to enhance student outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of all academic counseling services in assigned secondary school(s).
  • Implement a comprehensive school counseling program based on student data analysis.
  • Advocate for student success through collaboration with educators and site leadership.
  • Train College Advisors in the delivery of guidance curriculum.
  • Develop individual student plans and provide school-wide system support.
  • Coordinate family activities and programming to deliver academic and career counseling services.
  • Collaborate with school and regional leaders to support student programming.
  • Arrange school-wide opportunities for students and families to engage with college representatives.
  • Support students and families in finding post-secondary pathways and enrichment opportunities.
  • Provide additional support for special population groups, including undocumented students and those with IEPs.
  • Monitor student academic performance and assist with interventions.
  • Attend IEP, 504, attendance, MTSS, and SST meetings to present graduation pathways.
  • Communicate student progress and intervention plans to families.
  • Coordinate dual-enrollment applications and enrollment processes.
  • Support administration with student scheduling and credit recovery planning.
  • Prepare and deliver college, career, and academic advising workshops.
  • Prepare and interpret student data for differentiated programming.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Aspire's mission and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Pupil Personnel Services credential in School Counseling required.
  • Experience working with parents and families from under-resourced communities.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation and low-income students.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current state and federal laws governing counseling.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary program admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Knowledge of high school graduation, A-G, and college admissions requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of various college and career readiness tools (i.e., Naviance).
  • Ability to systematically document complex processes for reporting.
