About the position

Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC) is a dynamic and growing firm that is seeking a talented Interior Designer to join our team in Culver City, CA. As an Interior Designer, you will play a crucial role in contributing to a variety of design projects, conducting research, and performing analyses to support our innovative Interior Design practice. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about design and eager to collaborate with a diverse group of professionals across development, design, and construction. You will work closely with the leadership team to enhance and expand our presence and portfolio in Culver City through intentional project pursuits and strong client relationships. In this role, you will participate in the conceptual design process and provide full support throughout the entire project lifecycle in collaboration with the project team. Your responsibilities will include developing mood boards, material palettes, and furniture specification packages, as well as preparing and coordinating documentation for design and formal submission packages. You will also engage in construction administration activities and contribute to the creation of marketing and presentation materials. A key aspect of this position is the ability to present directly to clients on design and technical solutions, ensuring ongoing communication and correspondence with them. Additionally, you will represent LJC at community and civic events, embodying our core values of integrity, humility, and fearlessness, while also contributing to our Core Councils focused on Design, Culture, and Sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the conceptual design and provide full support through the entire project in collaboration with the project team.
  • Develop mood boards, material palettes, and furniture specification packages and schedules.
  • Prepare and coordinate documentation of the design and formal submission packages.
  • Participate in construction administration activities.
  • Contribute to the creation of marketing and presentation materials.
  • Present directly to the client on design and technical solutions and participate in ongoing client correspondence and communication.
  • Represent LJC in community and civic events.
  • Contribute to LJC's Core Councils (Design, Culture, and Sustainability).

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
  • 5+ years experience with interior design projects sufficient to present a portfolio demonstrating design and technical capabilities.
  • Experience in the Corporate and Hospitality market sectors preferred.
  • Should be registered as an interior designer or architect, or actively working toward licensure.
  • Interest in obtaining LEED- and/or WELL-accreditation desirable.
  • Demonstrated competence with Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD/Revit, and MS Office.
  • Exemplary written and spoken communication skills.
  • Comfort and poise presenting to external and internal audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship-building and colleague coaching skills.

Nice-to-haves
