About the position

The Senior Interior Designer at Gensler Chicago will play a crucial role in shaping innovative healthcare environments through user-centered design. This position focuses on developing design strategies that enhance both virtual and in-person care delivery, ultimately improving the experience for patients and caregivers. The designer will lead creative efforts on healthcare interiors projects, mentor design teams, and collaborate with various stakeholders to redefine healthcare spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creative efforts on healthcare interiors projects, developing overall design concepts and design presentation strategies
  • Mentor and provide creative direction to design teams
  • Act as the primary design interface with clients and consultants
  • Collaborate with team members and colleagues to promote an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy
  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts
  • Select interior finishes, furniture, and equipment
  • Produce space plans, furniture plans, elevations, and conceptual and finished design presentation documentation
  • Provide solutions to design problems and generate design alternatives
  • Review drawings, mockups, materials, and finish samples submitted by project contractors

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of design or architecture
  • 10+ years of design leadership of interior design and/or architecture projects; recent healthcare project experience is required
  • NCIDQ certified
  • LEED accreditation is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices
  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
  • Proficiency in Revit and other computer design programs
  • Working knowledge of healthcare planning in a variety of clinical settings
  • Portfolio inclusive of healthcare projects, ideally showing a range of interior and base building projects

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwell, and/or Net Zero Building certification
