About the position

EwingCole is a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, interior design, and planning firm with offices across the country. Our multi-disciplinary practice is built on the core values of professional excellence, design quality, and collaboration. We are seeking an Interior Designer II for our Healthcare Practice in New York, NY, who will play a crucial role in transforming design research, technical know-how, user requirements, and codes and guidelines into innovative and inspiring solutions. The ideal candidate will have over five years of experience and a passion for design, capable of communicating clearly across all mediums—visual, verbal, and written—to express ideas and explain the reasoning behind them. This role requires a curious mind that brings both big questions and big ideas to the table, contributing to a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives are valued. As an Interior Designer II, you will be responsible for leading the interior design of small-scale projects and assisting a senior designer on larger projects. You will work closely with junior designers, managing day-to-day work to meet deadlines and support their design journeys as a trusted mentor. Your role will involve ensuring efficient workflows while maintaining a detail-oriented approach to track progress and needs. You will engage in various essential functions, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, and marketing, all while collaborating with team members, clients, and consultants to create interior environments that serve the client's goals and respond to their desired spatial needs, image, and aesthetic requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and verify programming with clients as required by project type.
  • Work with the project manager and lead designer(s) to create interior environments that serve the client's goals.
  • Develop code compliant designs and schematic fundamental design reports.
  • Select appropriate finish materials and furnishings, and prepare furniture budgets.
  • Develop presentation materials including 3D renderings and lead design presentations to clients.
  • Participate in in-house design review presentations and collaborate with lighting designers on concepts.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and mentor less experienced designers.
  • Collaborate with the design team to articulate design principles during the detailing phase.
  • Execute and enhance design intent while preparing construction documents.
  • Develop project and furniture specifications and supervise less experienced designers.
  • Prepare submittal responses, shop drawing reviews, and conduct construction site visits.
  • Prepare interiors and furniture punch lists and work with the technical team on design directives during construction.
  • Assist market segment leaders and the marketing department in preparing design documents and presentation materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture.
  • Five years of experience in interior design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Suite, and 3D modeling software (Sketch up, Rhino).
  • Excellent conceptual skills and understanding of interior architecture.
  • Polished skills in client design visioning sessions and presentations.
  • Complete knowledge of interior architectural detailing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of finish materials and their application.

Nice-to-haves

  • NCIDQ Certification or actively pursuing it.
  • Comprehensive understanding of sustainable design concepts and experience with LEED or other rating systems documentation.
