About the position

The Interior Designer III position at Iowa State University involves providing professional interior design and project management services for small to medium-sized facilities projects, with budgets up to $250,000, and potentially larger capital projects up to $1,000,000. Responsibilities

  • Provide professional interior design and project management services for small- to medium-sized facilities projects, up to $250,000.
  • Responsible for interior design services on medium- to large-sized capital projects, up to $1,000,000, in coordination with external design professionals.
  • Manage up to 30-40 projects simultaneously, including office redesigns, classroom renovations, and laboratory remodels.
  • Advise and consult with university clients, professional consultants, and contractors.
  • Prepare project cost estimates, drawings, and specifications to communicate and provide instruction.
  • Provide general project support during all phases of design and construction.
  • Coordinate the work of other interior design staff and student employees for assigned projects.
  • Assist in developing, updating, documenting, and enforcing university interior design standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5 years of related experience in interior design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Commercial interior design experience.
  • Institutional or higher education interior design experience.
  • Experience estimating furniture, flooring, and wall finishes.
  • Experience specifying commercial furniture and systems furniture to develop detailed furniture orders.
  • Experience using computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD.
  • Experience using CET and/or SPEC furniture software.
