About the position

DLR Group is an integrated design firm with a promise to elevate the human experience through design. The Texas Region has an opening for an Interior Designer specializing in K-12 Education, located in either Dallas or Austin. This position operates within a hybrid work model, allowing for flexibility between office time and remote work. As an Interior Designer, you will be responsible for collaborating on the design of complex K-12 Education projects, ranging from schematic design through construction administration. You will work closely with the architectural design leader to develop comprehensive design solutions and collaborate with clients, contractors, vendors, and other team members to listen, design, and deliver the desired outcomes. The successful candidate will develop technical solutions to design challenges with creativity and a disciplined work ethic. You will integrate quality assurance and control, practice standards, and DLR Group protocols while collaborating with Project Managers on project team coordination. Your role will also involve maintaining project schedules and coordinating project deliverables. A strong ability in conceptual design, program development, and space planning expertise is essential. You will need to possess a holistic design acumen that addresses 3D space, ensuring functionality aligns with programmatic needs, and that materials, volumes, and performance of the space are in harmony. In addition, you will design, document, and detail ideas that are constructable, select appropriate products, materials, and furniture that align with DLR Group's sustainable commitments, and create graphic presentations to communicate design intent effectively. Regular attendance at site walks and construction administration meetings is expected, where you will articulate the value and critical aspects of coordination with our integrated practice. A strong willingness to grow, learn, and mentor is essential, along with strong client, project management, and time management skills. You will prepare and develop drawings, models, images, material and mood boards, and other design-related documents, working both independently and collaboratively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere across multiple offices.
