About the position

As a Mid Level Interior Designer at Gensler, you will play a crucial role in merging creativity with technical expertise to create functionally beautiful spaces for our clients. This position requires a strong foundation in architecture with a focus on interiors or interior design, complemented by exceptional design skills and a portfolio showcasing innovative design concepts. You will be expected to actively contribute to a respectful, creative, and inspiring design environment, fostering collaboration within your team and the broader design community. Your responsibilities will include performing a variety of interior design assignments, which encompass interpreting client needs, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation. You will utilize independent judgment in evaluating and selecting appropriate techniques and procedures, ensuring that your designs meet the highest standards of quality and functionality. In this role, you will also participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting. You will generate designs using 3D modeling software such as Revit and Enscape, creating digital 3D views to effectively communicate your design concepts. Additionally, you will be responsible for producing interior finishes, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, details, specifications, and material selections necessary for construction. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators. You will also have the opportunity to guide and mentor junior designers, contributing to their professional growth. Your involvement in office activities, initiatives, and learning programs will further enhance the collaborative culture at Gensler.

Responsibilities

  • Perform interior design assignments including interpreting client's needs, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Utilize independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting standard techniques and procedures for design projects.
  • Participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting.
  • Generate designs using 3D models, Revit, Enscape, or other software to create digital 3D views for communicating design concepts.
  • Produce interior finishes, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, details, specifications, and material selections needed for construction.
  • Provide design support and documentation during the completion and execution of design concepts.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators.
  • Guide and mentor junior designers in their professional development.
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field from an accredited school.
  • 5+ years of interior design experience.
  • NCIDQ Certified.
  • Knowledge of sustainable and universal design concepts.
  • Proficient in Revit & Enscape; knowledge of Rhino and Grasshopper is a plus.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications.
  • Strong graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and/or Net Zero Building certification.
  • Familiarity with additional design software and tools.
