About the position

As a Senior Interior Designer at Gensler's Houston office, you will play a pivotal role in leading creative and collaborative teams dedicated to design innovation and excellence. Your passion for interior design will be evident as you combine your creativity and technical knowledge with business acumen to create functionally beautiful spaces for clients. You will leverage your unique design perspective to introduce new approaches to the design process and strategy, while also focusing on developing the next generation of talent within the firm. Your contributions will help clients to rethink and redesign what is possible in their spaces. In this role, you will lead the creative efforts on client projects, developing overall design concepts and presentation strategies that align with the client's vision. You will inspire and mentor design teams, providing them with the creative direction necessary to elevate the quality of design. As the primary design interface with clients and consultants, you will collaborate with team members to promote an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy. Your responsibilities will also include participating in business development and marketing efforts, selecting interior finishes, furniture and equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting, as well as producing space plans, furniture plans, elevations, and conceptual and finished design presentation documentation. You will be tasked with providing innovative solutions to design problems, generating design alternatives, and reviewing drawings, mock-ups, materials, and finish samples submitted by project contractors. Additionally, you will foster and cultivate a culture of design within the office, striving to elevate design quality across all projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creative efforts on client projects, developing overall design concepts and design presentation strategies and vision.
  • Inspire, mentor and provide creative direction to design teams.
  • Act as the primary design interface with clients and consultants.
  • Collaborate with team members and colleagues to promote an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy.
  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts.
  • Select interior finishes, furniture and equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting.
  • Produce space plans, furniture plans, elevations, conceptual and finished design presentation documentation.
  • Provide solutions to design problems and generate design alternatives.
  • Review drawings, mock ups, materials, and finish samples submitted by project contractors.
  • Foster and cultivate a culture of design in the office and strive to elevate design quality on projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of design or architecture.
  • 10+ years of professional interior design and/or architecture experience.
  • NCIDQ certified.
  • LEED accreditation is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications.
  • Graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices.
