About the position

The Interior Designer position at Maricopa County's Design and Construction Division focuses on creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces for various county departments. The role involves professional interior design work, including programming, design, and documentation of furniture layouts and related tasks, contributing to the overall transformation of facilities managed by the county.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional interior design work by assisting in programming, design, and documentation of proposed furniture layouts and drawings.
  • Engage stakeholders and end-users from county departments to program the requested scope of a furniture request.
  • Identify budgetary parameters for desired furniture scope and develop design options to be conveyed through furniture layout drawings.
  • Review archived as-built and record drawings of existing facilities and supplement information with field surveys and photographic documentation.
  • Research potential furniture products and materials needed for proposed design solutions and prepare corresponding inventory reservations.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Management architecture team, designers, and other personnel in programming, design, cost estimating, and preparation of furniture drawings.
  • Prepare finished presentations for review and approval of leadership and end-users from various county departments.
  • Assist stakeholders and end-users in assessing and making recommendations for furniture, finishes, and equipment selections on approved projects.
  • Assist with updates of department finish sample boards and internal product library.
  • Assist with preparations and archiving of project closeout documents after completion of each furniture installation.

Requirements

  • Two years of professional-level work experience as an Architect, Architectural Designer, Interior Designer, or Interior Design Assistant.
  • Proficient in AutoDesk AutoCAD (2018 edition or higher) computer-aided design and drafting software.
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, or a closely related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree from a Council for Interior Design (CIDA) accredited interior design program.
  • Certification in Interior Design from the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).
  • Membership in the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) or American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
  • Design experience with Herman Miller modular furniture systems.
  • Proficiency in furniture specifying software such as Project Matrix or CET Configura, Sketch-up, and Adobe Creative Suite.
