About the position

Koniag Technology Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an Interior Designer with a Top-Secret Clearance to support KTS and our government customer in Quantico, VA. The Interior Designer will act as the primary contact between our office and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). This role requires a self-motivated, well-organized, design-oriented, and customer-focused individual who can represent multiple disciplines effectively. The designer will be responsible for directing the implementation of projects through all phases of design, including programming, conceptual design, schematic design, and design development, as well as construction documentation and administration when warranted. The Interior Designer will manage and coordinate schedules, hours, and work output with multiple in-house disciplines and/or consultants. They will monitor established standards and guidelines to ensure that projects comply with scope, schedule, and budget. Building and maintaining client relationships is essential, as the designer will work closely with Design Principals and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the globe to promote an integrated design approach. The designer will lead programming efforts, develop programming documents, and oversee multiple significant or large-scale projects. In addition to championing design excellence through the quality of deliverables, the designer will work under the consultative direction of the Design Director and/or Design Lead, having decision-making authority on major issues. Responsibilities also include planning and programming project layouts, conducting periodic on-site observations during construction, preparing client project presentations, and engaging with current clients to identify opportunities for additional services. The role may require periodic travel to construction sites and interaction with all levels of management and external personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the implementation of projects through all phases of design; programming, conceptual design, schematic design, and design development and construction documentation/administration, when warranted.
  • Manage and coordinate schedule, hours, and work output with multiple in-house disciplines and/or consultants.
  • Monitor established standards and guidelines to ensure that project complies with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Shape, develop and champion client relationships, existing and new.
  • Work closely with Design Principals and SMEs across the globe to advocate an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy; promote integrated design approach across firm.
  • Leads programming effort, developing programming documents and associated deliverables.
  • Leads effort on multiple significant projects or large-scale projects.
  • Champion design excellence through quality of deliverables.
  • Plans and programs layout of project(s); coordinates and integrates all other discipline elements into unified design for client review and approval.
  • Maintains schedules on interior scopes of work, responsible for deliverable milestones and the team's production.
  • Conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with detailed design documents.
  • May prepare client project presentations studies, and reports.
  • Participates in new project pursuits as well as engaging with current clients to identify and curate opportunities for continued or additional services.
  • Represents organization, with internal and external personnel, on significant matters.
  • Utilizes computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude
  • Bachelor's degree in interior design from a CIDA accredited school
  • NCIDQ certified
  • 15 years' minimum experience in a commercial environment
  • Government design experience a plus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in construction documents, CSI, and FF&E specifications
  • Understanding of building codes, ADA requirements, and LEED sustainability
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit (preferred), and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Top Secret Security Clearance
