About the position

The Department of Architectural & Engineering Services at the University of Oklahoma is seeking a talented Interior Designer to join our dynamic team. This department is responsible for providing professional and administrative services that direct the planning, design, and construction of new and renovated physical facilities across the university's three main campuses located in Norman, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. As an Interior Designer, you will play a crucial role in developing interior finishes, product specifications, and furniture layouts for various capital projects and renovations. Your expertise will be essential in preparing architectural and interior layouts, managing furniture orders, and overseeing the installation of new furnishings. In this position, you will collaborate closely with university staff and faculty to gather project scopes and space requirements for new buildings or renovation projects. You will be responsible for determining the necessary finishes, fixtures, furniture, and equipment needs. Your role will also involve preparing bid documents, developing budgets, managing schedules, and ensuring that all selections are finalized and presented to end users. You will serve as the main point of contact for clients, vendors, and contractors, providing regular project updates and coordinating information effectively. The Interior Designer will also oversee the installation of furniture, fixtures, equipment, and interior finishes, performing final inspections and following up with end users to ensure satisfaction. Adherence to established project procedures and compliance with legally mandated requirements related to building interiors will be critical to your success in this role. You will be expected to perform various duties as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop interior finish, product, and furniture specifications for new capital project construction and space renovations.
  • Prepare architectural and interior layouts as well as space layouts and drafting.
  • Prepare furniture layouts and specifications, prepare orders, and oversee installation of new furnishings.
  • Consult with university staff and faculty to gather project scope and space requirements for new buildings or renovation projects.
  • Determine finishes, fixture, furniture, and equipment needs.
  • Prepare furniture layouts, specifications, and bid documents; develop budget; prepare orders; manage schedule; and oversee installation of new furnishings.
  • Coordinate furniture layouts and specifications with project construction documents.
  • Select interior finishes for new buildings or renovation projects and finalize all selections to present to end users.
  • Oversee installation of furniture, fixtures, equipment, and interior finishes, performing final inspections and follow up with end users.
  • Serve as the main contact for clients, vendors, and contractors, providing regular project progress reports and coordinating information.
  • Adhere to established project procedures and standards; comply with legally mandated requirements as they relate to building interiors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • 18 months experience in Interior Design.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize goals and efforts of multiple constituencies.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Registration with Oklahoma Board of Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers.
  • Valid Driver's License.
