About the position

The University of Southern Indiana is seeking an Interior Designer responsible for creating functional and aesthetically pleasing interior spaces that meet the needs of the university. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Director of Facilities, consultants, and internal departments, to manage multiple interior design projects from inception to completion. The designer will also be tasked with updating CAD drawings and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-quality interior spaces that are functional and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and other stakeholders to determine design needs.
  • Research furniture and finish options, creating multiple design proposals.
  • Provide specifications, drawings, and bid documents for procurement.
  • Assist in the planning and design for renovations and new constructions.
  • Perform drafting by hand and computer, including conceptual and construction documents.
  • Maintain knowledge of current design trends, products, and building codes.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers for project materials and updates.
  • Supervise contractors and university staff during project execution.
  • Maintain updated records of all projects, including cost records and specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design or related field with one year of experience in commercial interior design project management, or an Associate degree with three years of experience.
  • Knowledge of building codes, ADA regulations, and other relevant regulations.
  • Experience in architectural drafting, particularly with AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in design software such as Revit, SketchUp, Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop.
