HOK is currently seeking an Interior Designer to join our Kansas City studio. As an Interior Designer, you will be responsible for interpreting, organizing, and executing the conceptual design of various projects. This role requires creativity, foresight, and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through to completion. You will conduct programming efforts such as space planning, layout, and utilization of furnishings and equipment, as well as lighting and color coordination. Your innovative design concepts will need to be practical, aesthetic, safe, and conducive to the intended purposes, reflecting client goals while adhering to project budgets. In this position, you will implement all phases of a design project, which includes managing contracts, budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, documentation, specifications, and construction. You will be responsible for the selection and specification of furniture, lighting, flooring, wall coverings, and artwork. Additionally, you will estimate material requirements and costs, solicit bids, and assist the Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of the necessary materials, finishes, and furnishings. Maintaining positive client relationships throughout the project is crucial, as you will keep clients informed of project progress and coordinate with other key project individuals to clarify, coordinate, and negotiate critical issues. You will also lead the Construction Administration phase, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), Change Orders (COs), reviewing shop drawings, and participating in field site reviews. Managing projects using Deltek Vision will be part of your responsibilities, including completing work plans, identifying project team members, budgets, consultants, schedules for completion, fees, and labor costs, as well as managing project change notices. You will ensure compliance with HOK Standards for all projects and processes, and incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into your work, taking personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable practices. As part of a collaborative team, you will render conceptual design ideas and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings. You will coordinate color and material palettes, produce written documentation related to projects, and review documents for adherence to building and ADA codes. Communication with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants, and other disciplines will be essential to ensure project details are executed correctly. You may also assist in design presentations and mentor less experienced staff, while exploring new opportunities to enhance professional services with existing clients.
