About the position

The Interior/Exterior Trim Design Engineer at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc (HATCI) is responsible for developing design improvement concepts and providing technical design support for current production vehicles. The role focuses on enhancing quality, cost, mass, and performance through collaboration with various teams and suppliers. The engineer will lead component testing, modify engineering drawings, and benchmark competitor vehicles to improve Hyundai-Kia products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design improvement concepts for Hyundai-Kia vehicles.
  • Provide technical design support for current production and new vehicle launches.
  • Confirm design for manufacturability and focus on warranty claim prevention.
  • Lead component testing on design concepts for production implementation.
  • Modify/create assembly structures utilizing the Bill of Material (BOM) system.
  • Modify/create 2D engineering drawings and associated 3D geometry based on design changes.
  • Review 2D drawings and 3D data from suppliers to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Benchmark competitor vehicles to understand design methodologies and customer preferences.
  • Develop strong supplier contacts and perform audits to maintain design intent.
  • Respond to special requests from production staff regarding quality trends and new concepts.
  • Create and present technical reports as assigned.
  • Prepare detailed project plans and reports for management.
  • Report weekly on projects to engineering and production management.
  • Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests and travel requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 0 - 9 years of experience in Engineering Design.
  • Knowledge of automotive industry engineering and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety standards and testing methods.
  • Proficient in CATIA V5 or similar CAD environment.
  • Proficient project management and data analysis skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
