About the position

The Intermediate Application Specialist - Data Governance is responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining the data governance program across the Enterprise. This role involves collaborating with health system leaders to identify priorities and align efforts across data governance initiatives. The specialist will support the review of external data sharing engagements and will be instrumental in formulating and defining system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex data governance information systems. In this position, the specialist will prepare detailed specifications from which data governance programs will be written and deployed. Essential functions include collaborating with business leaders to understand data-related needs, requirements, challenges, and gaps that can be addressed through the data governance framework. The specialist will lead data governance initiatives and workstreams that support the framework, goals, and priorities identified by the Data Governance Committee. The role also involves developing and implementing process and procedure documentation in support of data governance initiatives and programming. The specialist will design, code, test, debug, document, and maintain those programs while managing projects in all aspects of the data governance information systems lifecycle, including information planning, business requirements definition, implementation, and production support. Communication and management of project scope are critical components of this role. Additionally, the specialist will coordinate with multiple vendors to understand and review their external data sharing requests. They will create business processes for chosen data governance packaged systems and configure those systems accordingly. Ensuring that all user requests for data governance support and/or initiatives are received in writing and properly evaluated is essential, as is responding to requests in a timely manner and ensuring alignment with Data Governance Committee priorities. The specialist guarantees the efficient and effective completion of project assignments in accordance with standard procedures and assists in the resolution of issues regarding data governance projects and initiatives, developing recommendations and remediations for those issues. Finally, the specialist will assist in work plan development and management for the Data Governance Committee.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, databases, Software Development packages, programming languages such as SQR, Crystal, Unix, and AIX.
  • Two years of work experience with IS Technology preferred.
  • Health care industry experience preferred.
  • Training in data governance, project management, cybersecurity, and/or compliance preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in an educational background with Information Systems or Business-Related internships or part-time employment experiences.
