About the position

The Intermediate Artificial Intelligence Engineer - Human Language Technology position at MITRE Corporation involves researching, developing, evaluating, and integrating human language technology (HLT) capabilities. The role focuses on providing language processing solutions to various U.S. Government agencies, leveraging advanced technologies such as large language models and machine learning to address complex mission needs. Candidates will work in cross-functional teams, lead projects, and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, evaluate, and integrate HLT capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams in developing AI and HLT solutions.
  • Analyze language processing needs and recommend innovative solutions.
  • Prototype HLT systems or components based on workflow and operational mission needs.
  • Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences through briefings and/or white papers.
  • Lead projects or small teams to solve complex HLT problems for sponsors.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, linguistics, or related disciplines; or a Master's degree in the same fields.
  • Knowledge of and experience in prototyping/developing human language technology components/systems.
  • Ability to apply state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to human language technology processing challenges.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java or Python.
  • Demonstrated recent experience with large language models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to both lay and expert audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance within one year from date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior work experience, including summer internships, in AI/HLT relevant areas.
  • Hands-on experience in the development/prototyping of HLT systems or components.
  • Active DOD security clearance.
