About the position

The position at MITRE involves working within the Human Language Technology (HLT) Department to research, develop, evaluate, and integrate language processing solutions for various US Government agencies. The role focuses on applying advanced technologies such as large language models and machine learning to address complex mission needs, while also providing technical leadership and innovative solutions in the field of human language technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work in and provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI and HLT solutions, including capabilities that leverage large language model technology
  • Analyze language processing needs and recommend innovative solutions
  • Prototype HLT systems or components based on analysis of workflow and operational mission needs
  • Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs, and provide actionable recommendations
  • Convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences through briefings and/or white papers
  • Lead projects or small teams to solve complex HLT problems for our sponsors

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, linguistics, or related disciplines; or an advanced degree in computer science, engineering, linguistics, or related disciplines with relevant experience
  • Knowledge of and experience in prototyping/developing human language technology components/systems
  • Ability to apply state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to human language technology processing challenges
  • Ability to work independently to learn new technologies, methods, processes, frameworks/platforms, and systems
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java or Python
  • Demonstrated recent experience with large language model (LLM) technology and applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to both lay and expert audiences
  • Must be a US Citizen eligible to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance within one year from date of hire

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior work experience, including summer internships, in AI/HLT relevant areas
  • Hands-on experience in the development/prototyping of HLT systems or components
  • Active DOD security clearance
