Intermediate Backend Software Developer (Golang)

About the position

TextNow is looking for an Intermediate Backend Software Developer to join our Core Experience Team. At TextNow, we’re on a mission to transform the telecom landscape by building a platform that powers tens of millions of calls and messages every day, driving innovation and delivering exceptional user experiences. Our Core Experiences Team is at the heart of this mission, designing and developing scalable, high-performance backend systems that serve our customers. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the backend services that power our high-traffic platform. You’ll work with technologies like AWS, Golang, gRPC, Kubernetes, Terraform, and a microservice architecture to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems. Additionally, you'll be working with databases and event streaming platforms to handle high-volume data and real-time communication. Handling tens of millions of calls and messages daily, you'll focus on keeping our platform fast, responsive, and highly available.

Responsibilities

• Develop and Maintain Core Backend Services taking responsibility for helping to guide the architecture, design, and implement new & existing microservices
• Maintain a High Bar of Quality for the team, producing readable code, writing testable code, refactoring legacy systems, actively contributing to development standards and cross-team architectural reviews
• Participate in a Rotating On-Call, responsible for service uptime, availability of critical functions, and performing root cause analysis of incidents to identify steps towards lasting remediation
• Organize and communicate the technical details of upcoming projects through our architectural review process
• Collaborate with other backend teams in guiding the development of our shared libraries

Requirements

• Experience developing API services with gRPC or REST
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code tooling (Terraform, Kubernetes, or others)
• Ability to apply design principles and methodologies for building scalable and high-performance backend architectures
• Experience using relational or non-relational database technology (MariaDB, RDS, DynamoDB, Redis)
• Familiarity with CI build platforms (GitHub Actions or similar)

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with asynchronous event processing (Kafka, SQS, or others)
• Experience developing CI build platforms (GitHub Actions or similar)
• Experience with telecommunication (i.e. calling/messaging)
• Experience with migrating from legacy stacks (i.e. PHP, Ruby)
