About the position

CDM Smith is seeking a creative writing professional to join our Industrial Unit marketing team. This role is ideal for individuals who are creative thinkers and enjoy collaborating with teams to lead the development of compelling written storylines for proposals and presentations. The successful candidate will be responsible for bringing ideas to life that engage clients and convey the distinguishing features of our approach and technical solutions. A positive attitude, flexibility with change, and the ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment are essential traits for this position. The ideal candidate will have a portfolio showcasing engaging and innovative written content that complies with client RFPs while effectively connecting with the audience. As a member of the CDM Smith team, you will contribute to our mission by planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing strategies for marketing and business development efforts across key service areas, including clean energy, environment, facilities, and water. You will develop, write, edit, and proofread content for proposals, presentations, resumes, project descriptions, and related marketing materials of a complex nature for our industrial/private-sector clients. Creativity and strategic insight will be crucial as you lead brainstorming, storyboarding, and other strategy development sessions. You will also utilize a theme-based approach for the development of proposal and presentation efforts, update information in the CDM Smith firmwide database, and coordinate general client marketing efforts, including conferences and social media posts. Additionally, you will be actively involved in the CDM Smith marketing discipline group by participating on task forces and committees, as available. This position also offers opportunities for developing business development, marketing, facilitation, and writing skills through internal and external training sources and association memberships.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing strategies for marketing and business development efforts across key service areas.
  • Developing, writing, editing, and proofreading content for proposals, presentations, resumes, project descriptions, and related marketing materials.
  • Applying creativity and strategic insight while leading brainstorming, storyboarding, and other strategy development sessions.
  • Utilizing a theme-based approach for the development of proposal and presentation efforts.
  • Updating information in the CDM Smith firmwide database of resumes, project descriptions, proposals, and qualification packages.
  • Coordinating general client marketing efforts, including conferences, social media posts, webinars, and other activities.
  • Participating in the CDM Smith marketing discipline group by engaging in task forces and committees as available.
  • Developing business development, marketing, facilitation, and writing skills through training and association involvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and SharePoint applications; advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint; Adobe InDesign skills a plus.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate projects by communicating with remote team members.
  • Experience in editing/proofreading narrative written by technical professionals.
  • Practical experience in facilitating large and small groups in strategy and proposal development.
  • Ability to work under rigid time constraints with a narrow margin for errors or delays.
  • Ability to organize and negotiate project schedules and manage multiple deadlines and assignments.
  • Experience with business development/marketing process models (such as Dag Knudsen, Miller-Heiman, Shipley).
  • Excellent command of grammar, the AP Style Manual, and spelling.

Nice-to-haves

  • B.A. or B.S. in Communications, English, Business, Journalism or related degree.
  • Previous experience developing proposals for an architectural, engineering, or construction firm.
