About the position

The Intermediate Non-Destructive Testing Engineer at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory is responsible for developing and applying advanced non-destructive testing technologies. This role involves working both independently and collaboratively to create innovative solutions for various applications, including additive manufacturing and structural health monitoring. The engineer will engage in hands-on laboratory work, vendor collaboration, and may have opportunities for certification and travel to support shipboard inspections.

Responsibilities

• Develop non-destructive testing technologies for laboratory and shipboard inspections.
• Work independently and as part of a team to create innovative solutions.
• Engage in hands-on laboratory development work.
• Collaborate with vendors on testing technologies.
• Plan, track, and ensure safety and quality in all phases of work.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or
• Master's degree in engineering or science related field and 1 year of relevant experience; or
• Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
• SRE qualified.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification or experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Electromagnetic Testing (ET), Radiographic Testing (RT) or other non-destructive testing methods.
• Experience in the development and application of Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing techniques.
• Experience with sensors, instrumentation, signal processing, and circuit analysis and design.
• Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics.
