About the position

The Intermediate Software Engineer at Gordon Food Service plays a crucial role in developing, creating, and modifying ERP and third-party computer applications software, as well as specialized utility programs and scripts. This position involves analyzing user needs and developing software solutions that enhance operational efficiency. The engineer will primarily work with Progress/Openedge programs or scripts, adhering to specifications and established coding standards set forth by the architect and senior software engineers. Gordon Food Service is committed to providing Progress/Openedge training if needed, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in their roles. In this position, the engineer will document code for accuracy and optimal implementation of developed solutions, confirming designs with architecture and learning the programming structure specific to store technology solutions. Writing database queries for a tightly coupled Progress/Openedge database is a key responsibility, as is collaborating with internal and external business partners to determine the scope and estimate tasks related to issues that need resolution. The role also includes performing integrated testing of systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, scalability, and optimal performance, as well as analyzing and resolving program/script or system failures. The Intermediate Software Engineer will facilitate formal code reviews for programs/scripts, perform software system maintenance, support, and requirement analysis, and assist in designing GUI and software components. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, following a hybrid model that allows for three days in the office and two days remote. Responsibilities

  • Develop Progress/Openedge programs or scripts according to specifications and established coding standards.

Requirements

  • 1 to 5+ years of previous software development experience with a programming language or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
