About the position

The Intermittent Maintenance Repair Worker 2 position at the Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare is a part-time role focused on performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks within the facility. This position is crucial for ensuring that the hospital's physical environment is safe, functional, and conducive to providing high-quality mental health and addiction services. The worker will be responsible for a variety of maintenance activities, including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and general custodial duties. The role requires flexibility as the hours and shifts will vary based on the operational needs of the hospital, which operates 24/7. The worker may be required to work weekends and holidays, and there is no guarantee of hours or specific assignments. A full-time, two-week orientation is mandatory for all new hires, during which they will learn the necessary skills and protocols for the job. In this role, the worker will perform maintenance tasks such as the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, electrical equipment, and carpentry work. This includes tasks like fixing water and steam lines, repairing light fixtures, and making alterations to buildings and wooden structures. The worker will also assist in minor painting and masonry work, operate machine tools for repairs, and maintain both interior and exterior maintenance equipment. Additionally, the worker will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining various areas of the facility, including dining areas, restrooms, and offices, ensuring a clean and safe environment for both staff and patients. The position also involves grounds maintenance duties, such as snow removal and litter cleanup, as well as other related tasks like stocking supply closets and reporting equipment repair needs. The worker will be expected to attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings, and maintain documentation related to their work activities. This role is essential for supporting the overall mission of OhioMHAS in providing compassionate and effective mental health and addiction services to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, replacement, minor installation, and repair of plumbing equipment.
  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment including light fixtures, outlets, and emergency generators.
  • Conduct carpentry work involving alterations and repairs to buildings and wooden structures.
  • Assist in minor painting and masonry work as needed.
  • Operate machine tools and welding equipment for repairs to metal parts and equipment.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Clean and maintain various areas of the facility, including dining areas, restrooms, and offices.
  • Perform grounds maintenance duties such as snow removal and litter cleanup.
  • Attend mandated trainings and staff meetings, and complete work-related documentation.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic and reading, writing, and speaking common English vocabulary.
  • 6 months of training or experience in maintenance repair work, including basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry repair.
  • Valid commercial driver's license if operating motor equipment regulated by Ohio law.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavioral health facilities or similar environments.
