About the position

The Intermittent Media Programmer at the University of Montana is responsible for producing and delivering factual news radio programs for air and web distribution. This part-time position operates under the supervision of the MTPR program director and producer of the A New Angle program/podcast, requiring moderate independence in following assigned methods and timelines for program completion.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and edit programs using field recording kits and in-studio equipment.
  • Upload audio, video, and text content to various platforms including websites and social media.
  • Support the reporting and production of the A New Angle program/podcast.
  • Produce and deliver weekly promotional material for on-air and online distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC rules governing broadcast content.
  • Work under deadlines and manage stress in live broadcast situations.
  • Maintain a pleasant voice and clear diction during broadcasts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of journalism standards including balance, fairness, and fact-checking.
  • Knowledge of recording equipment, microphones, cameras, and other media production tools.
  • Excellent communication, writing, interviewing, and editing skills.
  • Ability to read with an authoritative and comforting voice.
  • Knowledge of language and pronunciation of names and words.
  • Ability to perform under deadline and live-production pressure.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to breaking news situations.
  • Knowledge of web content management systems and protocols.
  • Familiarity with interactive social media capabilities and methods.
  • Ability to edit audio and use web-based social media platforms.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in mixing board and audio production equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Degree in Journalism with experience in live-production pressure.
