Intermodal Equipment Operator - Memphis, TN

About the position

The Intermodal Equipment Operator at BNSF Railway is responsible for operating heavy equipment and supporting the loading and unloading of trailers and containers in a railroad intermodal facility. This role emphasizes safety and compliance with federal regulations while performing various tasks that require physical strength and coordination. Operators will work in a dynamic environment, handling equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and hostler trucks, and will be expected to assist in ground support operations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including cranes, side-loaders, forklifts, and hostler trucks.
• Assist Crane/Lift Operators in loading and unloading trailers and containers on/off railcars and chassis.
• Perform ground support work on uneven surfaces and walk long distances adjacent to railcars.
• Lock/unlock and raise/lower trailer hitches on railcars.
• Operate hostler trucks in the yard, maneuvering tractor-trailers in tight spaces.
• Use on-board computer systems to communicate with yard management and perform railcar spotting processes.
• Operate rubber tire gantry cranes to lift trailers and containers weighing up to 65,000 lbs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age by the anticipated start date.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work full-time (40 hrs/wk) with potential for overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
• Ability to visually distinguish colors and hear auditory signals.
• Proficient in accurately inputting data into computer systems.
• Ability to perform physical activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.
• Ability to work on uneven surfaces and climb on/off equipment.
