About the position

West Virginia Paving, Inc., a CRH company, is seeking an Accounting and Finance Intern to join our team in Dunbar, WV. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work with a vertically integrated company and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of the business related to accounting and finance. As an intern, you will be involved in essential duties that contribute to the overall financial operations of the company. You will work closely with company staff to identify solutions to common issues, provide clerical support, assist with data entry, and participate in month-end closings and reconciliations. Additionally, you will learn about and assist with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting and corporate governance. The internship is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the accounting and finance functions within a construction company. You will be expected to display a professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. The role may require you to travel and work away from home, as well as work nights and weekends when necessary. Adherence to safety requirements and company policies is paramount, and you will be expected to report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time. Responsibilities

  • Work with company staff to determine solutions to common issues.
  • Provide clerical support and assist staff with data entry, month-end closings, and reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Working towards a Master's, Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Finance, Accounting or other Business Related Degree from a college or technical school.
  • Understanding knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
