About the position

An Accounting and Finance Intern at Mulzer Crushed Stone, Inc. will have the opportunity to engage with various aspects of the business, particularly in accounting. This position is designed for individuals who are pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting and are eager to gain practical experience in a vertically integrated company. The intern will work closely with company staff to identify solutions to common issues, providing essential clerical support and assisting with data entry, accounts receivable and payable processing, collections, month-end closings, and reconciliations. Additionally, the intern will learn about and assist with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting. The role requires a professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Interns must be willing to travel and work away from home when necessary, as well as work nights and weekends if required. Adherence to safety requirements and company policies is paramount, and interns are expected to report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time. Regular attendance is also a key performance expectation, and employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule. The intern will be expected to demonstrate a strong desire to learn and possess a basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. This position is an excellent opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting and gain valuable insights into the accounting and finance functions of a leading company in the aggregates industry.

Responsibilities

  • Work with company staff to determine solutions to common issues.
  • Provide clerical support and assist staff with data entry, accounts receivable and payable processing, collections, month-end closings, and reconciliations.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Maintain timely and regular attendance.

Requirements

  • Working towards a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting from a college or technical school.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Nice-to-haves
