About the position
The Advanced Data Storage Experimentalist Intern will conduct research on emerging memory technologies and advanced energy-assisted magnetic recording systems. This role involves performing detailed assessments of memory devices, providing insights into performance limiters, and developing machine learning models to predict device performance and reliability. The intern will collaborate closely with modeling groups and other engineers to address recording physics challenges and will be involved in writing software for testing and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on emerging memory technologies and advanced energy-assisted magnetic recording systems.
- Perform detailed assessments of emerging memory devices through novel electrical testing.
- Use a spinstand for expert lab-level characterization of advanced recording head designs.
- Provide insights into performance limiters, reliability failure modes, and underlying mechanisms through measurements.
- Write software in Python to develop novel test and analysis methods.
- Collaborate with modeling groups to elucidate recording physics challenges.
- Work with test engineers and data analysts to explain experimentally observed phenomena.
- Develop machine learning models based on modeling and experimental data to predict device performance and reliability.
Requirements
- Experience with lab electronics (oscilloscope, SMUs, AWG, spectrum analyzer, VNA, etc.)
- Experience with programming languages (Python, Cuda, C++, Fortran, etc.)
- Strong statistics skills
- Knowledge of non-volatile memory/semiconductor testing
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Flexibility to operate under supervision and independently
- Excellent team player
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Linux-based computing hardware is a plus.
