About the position

The Bilingual Community Engagement & Marketing Intern will work closely with the Best Friends Community Marketing Team and the Best Friends Pet Resource Center Community Outreach staff to develop and implement various community engagement and marketing strategies aimed at building local relationships within the Spanish-speaking community in Northwest Arkansas. This role is essential in promoting the no-kill movement and utilizing the Pet Resource Center to meet the needs of pet lovers in the area. The intern will be integrated into the larger Best Friends Community Marketing and Pet Resource staff teams, attending weekly meetings and receiving coaching and support from their supervisor. This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn from a national organization while actively serving the local community. The position is hybrid, requiring a mix of in-person work at the Best Friends Pet Resource Center, community engagement activities, and some remote work. The intern will be expected to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week for six months, with flexible dates between October 2024 and June 2025. There is potential for additional hours based on the team's needs and the intern's availability. This role is particularly suited for students seeking college credit, as it provides hands-on experience in community engagement and marketing within a non-profit setting focused on animal welfare.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Community Marketing Team and the Best Friends Pet Resource Center Community Outreach Team to maximize community engagement and marketing opportunities with the Spanish-speaking community in Northwest Arkansas.
  • Lead community engagement and grassroots marketing strategies and events to increase awareness of pet retention resources, adoption, fostering, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Measure the success of strategies and local grassroots tactics using data and analytics to quantify the effectiveness of the work.
  • Meet with community influencers in Northwest Arkansas to build relationships and invite collaboration in support of Best Friends Pet Resource Center initiatives.
  • Demonstrate kindness and compassion, build trust through authenticity, and prioritize well-being while fostering inclusive relationships with colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Reliable transportation to travel within the Northwest Arkansas area is necessary, including the use of public transportation.
  • If using a personal vehicle, must have held a valid driver's license for at least three years, possess a clean driving record, and pass a motor vehicle record check.
  • Client service experience is preferred but not required.
  • A customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player are important.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in client service or community outreach is a plus.
  • Familiarity with grassroots marketing strategies and community engagement best practices is beneficial.

Benefits
