About the position

The internship opportunity at Philips is designed for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in a HealthTech company. Interns will work under the guidance of the Manager of Biological Safety Engineering, collaborating with a team of biological safety engineers, material scientists, and toxicologists to support biocompatibility evaluations of products throughout their lifecycle. This role involves assisting in the development of biological safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and adhering to quality management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with biological safety engineers, material scientists, and toxicologists to support biocompatibility evaluations of S&RC products.
  • Assist in the development of biological safety programs through biological risk assessments and testing plans.
  • Support the execution of internal databases to aggregate and streamline historic work.
  • Learn and adhere to internal quality management systems and current biocompatibility procedures.
  • Participate in biocompatibility training programs and provide weekly project status reports.
  • Assist in the development of test plans and evaluation of current data.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Statistics or a closely related field.
  • Experience with medical device design requirements and the risk management process.
  • Experience writing new test plans, evaluating results, and performing data analysis.
  • Familiarity with toxicological risk assessments is a plus.
  • Interest in global medical device regulations and a commitment to quality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with ISO 10993 and ISO 18562 standards.
  • Knowledge of FDA 2024 Guidance Document 'Use of International Standard ISO 10993-1'.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
