About the position

HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking a Process Engineering Intern who, under close and frequent supervision, assists Engineers by performing routine engineering assignments for the Engineering Departments. This internship provides an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the field of chemical engineering, working alongside experienced professionals in a refinery environment. The intern will be involved in various aspects of process engineering, contributing to the design and improvement of chemical manufacturing processes. The role is designed to help the intern develop their technical skills and understanding of engineering principles in a real-world setting. The intern will coordinate project assignments with other engineers and technicians in their discipline group. They may be required to perform engineering design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons, and similar technical work as required by their assignments. Additionally, the intern will conduct research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes, assist in designing and planning layouts for chemical processes on a commercial scale, and investigate the most effective arrangements of operations such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation, and polymerization. The intern will also implement processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner, review engineering drawings, and recommend necessary changes. They will research code issues and work with City, State, and County officials, generate construction P&IDs, and document findings for Project Engineers and/or Engineering Managers. The intern will survey construction areas to plan equipment and piping layout and assist with other duties assigned by Project Engineers and/or Engineering Managers. Special assignments or tasks may also be assigned by their manager as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews engineering drawings and recommends necessary changes
  • Researches code issues and works with City, State, and County officials
  • Generates construction P&IDs
  • Researches design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Engineering Managers
  • Surveys construction areas to plan equipment and piping layout
  • Assists with other duties assigned by Project Engineers and/or Engineering Managers
  • Completes special assignments or tasks assigned by their manager as determined from time to time

Requirements

  • Some completed courses needed for a Bachelors Degree in Engineering are required
  • Completion of Junior level engineering courses is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically
  • Basic ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft products

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with engineering software is preferred
