At HNTB, we are looking for a Track Design Intern who will play a crucial role in the design and planning of railway tracks. This position is an excellent opportunity for students currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary engineering program to gain hands-on experience in the field of transportation engineering. As a Track Design Intern, you will work under the guidance of experienced track design engineers, contributing to various aspects of track design, analysis, and documentation. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains by designing tracks that meet technical standards, operational requirements, and regulatory guidelines. In this role, you will be involved in tasks such as track layout and alignment analysis, where you will consider factors like curvature, superelevation, and transitions between straight and curved sections. You will also support clearance analysis by assessing the space between trains and adjacent structures, ensuring safe and obstruction-free train operations. Additionally, you will contribute to the selection and specification of track components, such as rails, sleepers (ties), fasteners, and ballast depth, while considering project requirements and industry standards. Your contributions will extend to aiding in the design of track grading and drainage profiles, ensuring proper water management and track stability. Collaboration with track design engineers and other professionals will be essential as you integrate track designs with overall project plans. You will participate in the preparation of detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports, and support track maintenance and rehabilitation considerations by contributing to long-term maintenance planning and design optimization. This internship will provide valuable insights into the intricacies of track design and the broader field of transportation engineering.
