About the position

HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking an Engineering Intern who, under close and frequent supervision, assists Engineers by performing routine assignments for the Engineering Departments. This internship provides a unique opportunity for students pursuing a degree in engineering to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic refinery environment. The intern will coordinate project assignments with other engineers and technicians in their discipline group, ensuring effective collaboration and communication throughout the project lifecycle. The intern may be required to perform various tasks, including engineering design calculations, sketches, and technical comparisons as required by their assignments. They will conduct research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes, assisting in the design and planning of layouts for chemical processes on a commercial scale. The role involves investigating the most effective arrangement of operations, such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation, and polymerization, to optimize production efficiency. Additionally, the intern will implement processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner. They will review engineering drawings and recommend necessary changes, research code issues, and work with City, State, and County officials to ensure compliance. The intern will generate construction P&IDs, research design options, and document findings for Project Engineers and/or Engineering Managers. They will also survey construction areas to plan equipment and piping layout and assist with other duties assigned by Project Engineers and/or Engineering Managers. Special assignments or tasks may be assigned by their manager as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Some completed courses needed for a Bachelors Degree in Engineering are required
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically
  • Basic ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft products

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of Junior level engineering courses is preferred
  • Experience with engineering software is preferred
