About the position

Geosyntec is seeking an Intern / Co-Op - Geologist, Hydrogeologist, or Scientist to join their Columbia, Maryland office. This full-time position offers students the chance to apply their engineering academic knowledge to real-world situations while gaining essential business skills for a successful consulting career. The internship lasts approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the summer of 2025, providing a unique opportunity to work with a leading environmental engineering firm.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork such as soil and groundwater sampling and drilling, and contractor oversight following training (up to 50% of the time).
  • Assist with engineering calculations, design, and/or research.
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals.
  • Manage and analyze data, including preparing maps, tables, and figures.
  • Follow instructions and interact with engineers, scientists, office administrative staff, CADD operators, contractors, and construction personnel.
  • Travel locally to project sites as needed.
  • Obtain a 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in a relevant geological or environmental science, or related engineering discipline (required).
  • Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. degree in relevant geological or environmental science, or related engineering or scientific discipline (preferred).
  • A high interest in working on geological, environmental restoration, and cleanup projects (required).
  • Valid U.S. driver's license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites (required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ArcView, CADD, and/or Microsoft Office (preferred).
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication, and problem-solving skills (preferred).
