As a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI), you will engage in a variety of technical functions that support the company's operations. This role is designed for students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, providing an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting. You will work under significant oversight, performing tasks that include engineering evaluations and analyses, planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of nuclear, mechanical, structural, or electrical components, systems, and equipment. Your work may also involve operations support, safety analysis, vibration analysis, and the development of engineering methods and software. The internship will commence in Summer 2025, requiring a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week. It is important to note that this is not a remote position; you will be expected to work on-site in Schenectady, New York. This internship is structured to enhance your academic training while allowing you to gain critical business skills and insights into BPMI, the Navy, and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. In this role, you will assist with engineering responsibilities that support various activities including fleet operations, technology analysis, manufacturing, and testing. You will prepare project plans, conduct analytical evaluations, and develop an understanding of component and system interrelationships. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of technical manuals and reports, participate in technical discussions with suppliers, and monitor supplier performance.
