About the position

The Construction Management Intern position at The Shelly Company offers a unique opportunity for individuals pursuing a degree in Construction Management or Operations Management. Interns will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of construction management, including project management, asphalt plant operations, and aggregate manufacturing. This role is designed to provide practical knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in the construction industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist in project management for public and private jobs.
• Learn to find, bid, and build heavy construction projects.
• Work with current bidding software.
• Set up contracts and subcontracts.
• Collaborate with estimators and project managers.
• Spend time with asphalt plant operators and learn plant operations.
• Assist with general maintenance of the asphalt plant.
• Work on construction crews and learn job preparation from foremen.
• Understand construction equipment and its various uses.
• Work with Operations Manager on monthly projections and job costs.
• Review financial statements and understand basics of P&L.
• Learn about aggregate manufacturing and sales operations.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Construction Management or Operations Management.
• Proficient in Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Strong mathematical skills for calculations and data interpretation.
• Ability to solve practical problems in various situations.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience in construction or related fields.
• Familiarity with construction equipment and operations.
