About the position

Nelnet is seeking an intern to join our Security Analysts team, where you will engage in meaningful work that directly impacts our business. In this role, you will work closely with various business lines and our IT shared services team to determine, implement, and define security measures and processes necessary to protect our organization. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in security analysis, application security testing, and collaboration with development teams to enhance application security. Your responsibilities will include performing application and environment security testing, conducting automated static and dynamic code analysis, and developing internal automation and integrations with security services. You will also collaborate with development teams to promote best practices in security, understand security intelligence and methodologies, and administer necessary security products and processes. This role requires a solid understanding of security products, processes, and protection measures, as well as the ability to interface with both the business and user community to understand their security needs. You will participate in risk assessments and contribute to security enhancements, ensuring that our information systems are protected from potential threats. Responsibilities

  • Perform application and environment security testing, evaluation, and hardening.
  • Conduct automated static and dynamic code analysis with report creation and delivery.
  • Develop internal automation and integrations with implemented security services.
  • Collaborate with development teams to advance security of applications through training, code review, promotion of best practices, and continuous process improvement.
  • Demonstrate an adequate understanding of security products, processes, and protection measures.
  • Understand security intelligence, methodologies, and remain up to date on the latest breach trends including vulnerabilities and counter measures.
  • Administer, test, implement, and maintain the necessary security products and processes to protect information systems assets.
  • Interface with both the business and user community to understand their security needs.
  • Understand the policy, standards and procedures found in the Nelnet enterprise as well as understanding appropriate laws and regulations.
  • Review, analyze, implement and administer vendor and internally developed security software, products and procedures to address security requirements.
  • Participate in risk assessments, data processing, and security enhancements.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in an IT-related field.
  • Proficient in the use of development and Application Security products.
  • Proficient in at least one development language.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and DevSecOps.
  • Familiarity and experience with various regulations governing IT environments.
  • Knowledge of security, control and computer technology.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply concepts of statistics and probability to identify and address problems, trends, and relationships in work-related data.
  • Knowledge of various computer systems and software - PC and/or online - to input, access, modify or produce information or to execute preprograms.
  • Knowledge of industry relevant to job.
  • Knowledge of at least one computer development language, methodology, and techniques.
