About the position

The Data Scientist - IT Intern position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of data science and IT operations. This full-time internship is part of the Fall Rotation, running from September 23, 2024, through December 20, 2024, in Columbus, OH. Interns will engage in a variety of functions and responsibilities across the department, contributing to innovative AI and data science projects. The role includes attending daily and weekly standups to showcase progress and successes to stakeholders, ensuring that the intern is actively involved in the team's workflow and communication processes. Interns will collaborate closely with business partners and IT departments to understand the company's needs and develop potential solutions. Staying updated with the latest technology trends is crucial, as the intern will be expected to communicate results and ideas effectively to key decision-makers. The role also involves supporting the implementation of new statistical or mathematical methodologies for specific models or analyses, optimizing joint development efforts through appropriate database use and project design. Additionally, the intern will facilitate organizational aspects of data and analytics symposiums, which are internal events aimed at fostering the analytical community within the company. They will assist the lead data scientist in building and monitoring AI models, visualizing key business data, and supporting IT operations. This internship not only provides valuable experience but also allows interns to contribute to meaningful projects that impact the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business partners and IT departments to understand company needs and develop possible solutions
  • Keep up to date with latest technology trends
  • Communicate results and ideas to key decision makers
  • Support implementation of new statistical or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis
  • Optimize joint development efforts through appropriate database use and project design
  • Facilitate organization aspects of data and analytics symposium (Internal analytical community event)
  • Assist the lead data scientist within the department with process and tools to build and monitor AI models
  • Visualize key business data and key performance metrics
  • Support with IT operations

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor or master's degree program at an accredited college or university
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
  • Have completed at least 30 college credit hours at time of application
  • Field of study: Computer Science, IT, Data Science, AI, or related field
  • Must attach a copy of college unofficial transcript
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week)
  • Prior BMW Group experience (applicable to international J1 students only)
  • Proficient working knowledge of R or Python programming
  • Excellent time-management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Self-motivated, adaptable to a dynamic environment

  • Knowledge of AWS cloud use
