About the position

Lumen is offering a 10-week summer internship program for Operations Engineer interns within the North American Operations organization. The program aims to empower interns by providing hands-on experience in optimizing troubleshooting procedures and expanding technician capabilities through automation and tools. Interns will engage in software development and automation of manual tasks while collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the Network Operations Automation Team to optimize troubleshooting procedures.
• Automate manual tasks and engage in software development.
• Prepare and deploy network configuration changes to support audits and other projects.
• Manage and deliver multiple projects to operational stability.
• Communicate with stakeholders to clarify requirements and provide project status updates.
• Estimate task completion times and influence team work schedules accordingly.
• Support existing applications and procedures.
• Write documentation to support applications and processes.

Requirements

• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, with rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.
• Graduating between August 2025 and May 2027.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suites.
• Hands-on development experience with backend languages like Java and/or Python and databases such as SQL/MongoDB/Oracle.
• Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML/CSS, Django, and JavaScript.
• Experience working in Windows and Unix environments, including file structures and basic shell scripting.
• Understanding of XML, JSON, and data structure fundamentals.
• Familiarity with Agile methodology and version control systems like Git.
• Knowledge of L2/L3 networking protocols such as MPLS, BGP, and TCP/IP.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with NodeJS.
• Familiarity with React/jQuery/Angular.
• Networking knowledge.
