About the position

As an Electrical Engineering Intern at Sargent & Lundy, you will be an integral part of our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services business unit, working closely with a project team to assist in the execution of various engineering projects. These projects may encompass the design of new systems or modifications and upgrades to existing transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems. This internship is designed to provide you with hands-on experience under the guidance of senior engineers, allowing you to apply and expand your academic knowledge in Electrical Engineering. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs. You will also engage in project reporting tasks, which involve tracking and evaluating project activities, monitoring project progress, and analyzing associated data. Additionally, you will be involved in power designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services. This role is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in the field and develop your skills in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
  • Work on project reporting tasks, tracking and evaluating project activities and progress.
  • Be involved in power designs and prepare specifications for procurement of electrical power equipment.

Requirements

  • Expected graduation date in Spring 2025, Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Fall 2026.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Strong academic background with coursework in electrical power.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience.
