The City of Fort Wayne is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join the City Utilities Engineering Department. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work under the direct supervision of experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience in both office and field settings. Interns will be immersed in the workings of Fort Wayne's Utility system, which includes storm and sanitary collection, water distribution, energy and sustainable infrastructure, treatment facilities, dams, and reservoirs. The role is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the engineering processes involved in municipal utilities, while also adhering to the City and Utility's safety rules and operating regulations. Interns will engage in a variety of tasks that require good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise. Responsibilities will include field reconnaissance to gather data on existing equipment, verifying plans and specifications against field conditions, and preparing preliminary reports. Interns will also participate in process improvement and optimization projects, contributing to efforts aimed at enhancing the sustainability of Utility projects and programs. The ability to manage multiple projects and tasks effectively is essential, as priorities may shift based on project needs. In addition to technical skills, the intern will be expected to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with professionalism and respect.
